Parliamentary Secretary visits HOPE Mascot

Ms Melanie Gibbons MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Families, Disability and Emergency Services recently visited our future Building HOPE Sydney - Mascot site.

Hosted by Father Valentin Mendoza of St Therese Catholic Parish and CatholicCare Sydney CEO, Mark Phillips, Ms Gibbons was treated to a tour of the building which is to be developed into transitional housing for young mums at risk of homelessness. Ms Gibbons also spent some time with some of the mums and bubs who have already benefited from the support of our HOPE Program which provides holistic support and accommodation to young mothers and their children.

The development of these, currently underutilised, buildings provided by Catholic parishes are critical to the support of these young mums, as social housing wait lists can be up to 10 years.  By repurposing these properties, we can get these vulnerable families off social housing waiting lists and into transitional housing with wrap around services sooner.
