Catholic Schools help spread the goodness to families

Catholic School Gift of GoodnessDue to the broad impact of COVID-19, CatholicCare Sydney has experienced an increase in demand for our vital support services.

This year, CatholicCare’s Gift of Goodness campaign will support those Sydney families who have found themselves in need through these uncertain times.

The Gift of Goodness campaign is run in Catholic Schools across Sydney each year to help raise funds to support disadvantaged families and individuals in our community, such as refugees, vulnerable young mothers, people who have a disability, families experiencing violence and the elderly. The campaign also raises funds to provide Sydney families in need with healthy and nutritious food hampers to help put food on the table at Christmas time.

CatholicCare has called upon Sydney Catholic Schools to be the
“hands and feet” of Christ to give back to others who are struggling
in the community through the Gift of Goodness campaign.

Gift of Goodness_St Aloysius Cronulla Market DayThis year school leaders have had to think of new ways to engage their fellow students. Long gone are the traditional cake stalls. As part of the theme, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School at Como decided to dress as fruit. Whereas other schools have held freaky sock days or wear a jersey day to raise funds.

The principal of St Aloysius Cronulla, Elizabeth Owens, said it’s all about giving to those who are most vulnerable.

“The students thought this [Gift of Goodness] was a great idea and have decided that is where our money from our Mercy Market Day should go this year.”

Each year the students run a market day. They have control of the market, promoting and creating stalls. The theme for this year’s Market Day is “We can be local heroes” where students and teachers will come dressed as local heroes.

Thank you to all the schools and students who have accepted the Gift of Goodness challenge to help all in our community to live and thrive.
